Welcome to the Boudoir Prep Guide
Boudoir photography is a very up close and personal style of photography so it is important to know how to prep for your first shoot. The following is just a guide and may work for some and not for others. Please check it out and hopefully you get some good tips for your big day!
Your Boudoir Outfits
Think about the outfits you want in your shoot. Boudoir shoots are typically 45 minutes to an hour so prep up some outfits that make you feel confident and beautiful. If you are unsure what to wear you can reach out or check online for different ideas. I always recommend bringing something of your significant others like a button up shirt or a jersey. Adding this little piece in will sure make the pictures that much more special. Consider bringing 3-5 outfits so that you can switch between pieces and have back ups incase anything breaks etc.
Week of the Shoot
The week of the shoot is prime time to get ready to feel your best.
Consider the following the week leading up to ensure you are looking and feeling your best:
- Get a fresh manicure and pedicure. Beautiful nails always look great in photos and its a good way to make you feel beautiful.
- If you are tanning ahead of time please make sure you go to a good person who does a natural look as the orange tones some spray tans and tanning products leave are not easy to edit out of the photos.
- Shave or wax a day or two before the shoot to ensure redness and irritation is away on the day of the shoot.
- Drink lots of water to feel hydrated.
- Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!!! Soft dewy hydrated skin is so important!
- Look up some poses that interest you. I always welcome people coming in with exact poses they want to add to my list of shots.
Day of the Shoot
The big day is here! Here are some tips for the day to make you feel ready to go!
- Make sure your boudoir bag is packed and ready to go.
- Wear loose fitting clothing today and avoid bras and tight fitting underwear. This will help avoid impressions on your skin and allow for a clean beautiful slate for your photos.
- Come prepared with your hair and makeup complete. There will be time for touch ups but you will not have time for a full makeup and hair styling right before.
- Make sure you do not eat a large meal right before your shoot. Food babies do not make for a great boudoir
- moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!
- Most of all relax and be eager to go!
Boudoir Bag Checklist
Last but not least make sure you pack the following in your bag for the shoot itself:
- 2-3 outfits... plus a few extra incase things just do not fit the way you want.
- Something of your significant others like a shirt or jersey they might love to see incorporated into the photos.
- Accessories. These could be jewelry, knee high socks, tights, a robe, anything you want to incorporate into your photos.
- Brush and Touch up Makeup: always good to come prepared in case you need to do any touch ups.
- lotion!
- Water!
